5 Big Budget Star Cast Movies That Flopped This Year

Numerous Bollywood films with seasoned actors and actresses, big budgets, breathtaking locations, and stunning shots fail to win the audience over. A lot of Bollywood films with a big budget were released in 2022, but they weren't all that popular. Back-to-back box office failures for Hindi films are a reminder to filmmakers to consider audience mood. Hopes were high due to the majority of the films' well-known stars, hefty budgets, and pre-pandemic buzz.

1. Samrat Prithviraj

A movie on Prithviraj Chauhan, one of India's greatest kings, had been eagerly anticipated for a while, but Akshay Kumar and the YRF banner's collaboration fell short of expectations. Khiladi Kumar, Sonu Sood, and Sanjay Dutt's supporting performances, together with Manushi Chillar, the former Miss World, couldn't redeem this high-budget (175 Cr) war period drama. Samrat Prithviraj struggled to earn just 70 Crore (66 Cr India Nett) at the box office after its June 3 release due to immediate mixed reviews.

2. Dhaakad

The goal of Kangana Ranaut's crime thriller, "Dhaakad," which ran for two hours and fifteen minutes, was to convince viewers that good should always triumph over evil. The crowd was quite enthusiastic about the movie since Kangana had promised that it would be even more wonderful because the spy in it is a woman rather than the typical man we see in spy movies.

She was starring alongside stars like Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta as a female spy on a quest to save humanity. She is renowned for her outspokenness and self-assurance. Dhaakad, which had an 85 core budget and only garnered 2, and a half core in revenue, was a massive Bollywood flop when it was released on May 20, 2022.

3. Runway 34

Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Boman Irani, Akanksha, and Rakul Preet Singh played the main characters in Runway 34, a real-life event-based story. The movie was about a jet airway flight that needs to travel to Kochin international airport but arrives very late owing to terrible weather and other issues.

The life of many people is in the piolet's hands because he is the one who will look out for all the passengers in the event of an accident or any difficult circumstance, according to Ajay, who stated this during the movie's promotion. The film was released on May 29, 2022, the same day as Heropanti 2 was released. The crew believed that audiences would like it because it was developed in an innovative setting, but the movie failed to recoup its production costs.

4. Jayeshbhai Jordaar

A comedy-drama film with social consciousness was centered on a Gujarati sarpanch household that wishes for a boy from their son. Along with Boman Irani and Shalini Pandey, Ranveer Singh is in the lead. The public had high expectations for the film because Ranveer Singh has produced so many blockbuster hits, however many were disappointed by the movie's concept. The movie's budget was relatively large (86 CR), but the audience didn't appreciate the plot, and the box office receipts were only (17 CR).

5. Jersey

The sports drama film starring Shahid Kapoor was an adaptation of the Telugu film jersey. The Shahid movie came out on April 22, 2022, whereas the Telugu film was released in 2019. The crowd adored the film more than the Jersey movie, hence it was only in theatres for 7 days following KGF. The movie had a 95CR budget but only received 27.5CR in total revenue.

The audience loved the on-screen chemistry between Shahid Kapoor and Murunal Thakur, but by the time Jersey's filming began, the Hindi rendition of the Telugu movie Jersey had already been broadcast on television, and the majority of people had already seen it. Additionally, the audience of the 2022 Jersey movie did not enjoy the film's music.
